In Parliament

Members of Parliament are elected to represent the interests and concerns of the people who live in their constituency.

MPs consider and vote on legislation and use their position to ask Government Ministers questions about current issues.  Once a month each Minister from each Government Department answers questions from MPs at the Dispatch Box. There is a limit to the number of questions that can be asked.  MPs can also table written questions to the relevant Government department.

There is a Parliamentary convention that Government Ministers or Shadow Ministers don't sign Early Day Motions (EDMs).  As Catherine was appointed to a Shadow Ministerial role in the Opposition's front bench team in September 2015, she will no longer sponsor or attach her name to EDMs except in exceptional circumstances.  However, she will continue to monitor and raise issues that constituents contact her about in Parliament in the forthcoming session.
