Four and a half years on from Grenfell, too many people are still stuck in unsafe homes, and too many leaseholders are still facing eye-watering bills.

Today’s Government announcement saw some progress, finally, but not enough.  Any plan must also cover non-cladding issues, for my constituents who are facing huge bills to rectify defects such as gaps around fire doors and inadequate external wall insulation.  No leaseholders should be facing costs for rectifying essential safety measures that weren’t their responsibility and no tenant should be left anxious that the home they live in isn’t safe.

I challenged the Government again on this today.

Watch my question to Michael Gove here:

I also directly sought reassurance for leaseholders in the Roundway in Wood Green and other similar properties across Hornsey & Wood Green, that not only will the whole of the cladding costs be covered under this arrangement but their mortgage issues will be resolved?  Read my question and the Ministerial response here.
