Since Haringey Council’s two-week trial road closure of Middle Lane started on Monday 7 October, I’ve been contacted by lots of residents.

One immediate concern was access for emergency vehicles, which I raised as a matter of urgency with Haringey Council’s Chief Executive.  I have now been advised that emergency vehicles are able to and have been using Middle Lane throughout the trial.

Whilst I strongly support measures to reduce air pollution, I believe it’s crucial that the Council undertakes a full assessment at the end of the two-week trial period to determine what impact closing Middle Lane will have – not only for residents and businesses in Crouch End itself, but also for those in surrounding areas.

I have urged the Council to undertake further consultations with local residents and take air quality readings before, during and after the trial period in all areas which may be affected by the proposed changes.

I also understand that there will be an opportunity to talk to Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member Kirsten Hearn about the scheme on Crouch End Broadway from 10.30am on Saturday 12 October.
