Catherine West MP Standing up for Hornsey & Wood Green
Being green is at the heart of the Labour movement.
This is whatLabour’s Shadow Environment Secretary, Maria Eagle, said when she joined us in Hornsey & Wood Green for a discussion on Labour’s green agenda on 14 April.
It was a Labour Government that fought for a climate deal at the Copenhagen Summit, created the Department for Energy and Climate Change and introduced the world’s first Climate Change Act.
It was a Labour London Mayor that introduced the Low Emission Zone and Congestion Charge scheme and it was a Labour Council Leader who introduced the first Borough-wide 20mph speed limit.
We don’t just talk about green policies, we deliver green policies.
We must protect the environment and tackle climate change -; I passionately believe this.
Like Ed Miliband, I think that this is the single most important thing we can do for our children and grandchildren.
Protecting the environment and building a sustainable future was my focus when I was Leader of Islington Council. It will be at the core of my work if I am elected as the Member of Parliament for Hornsey and Wood Green.
As you can see our meeting with Maria Eagle was packed – standing room only. It showed the huge interest in environmental issues in this area.
