Catherine West MP Standing up for Hornsey & Wood Green
Young people are having a tough time under the Coalition. Insecure and low paid jobs, and tuition fees tripled despite the Lib Dem “pledge”.
I want colleges, councils and industry to work better together to get more local people into areas such as construction -; where there is a real need to ensure that everyone benefits from economic growth, not just those in the square mile.
I’ve successfully introduced schemes like this, with more than three-quarters of young people taking part moving on to paid work. That’s the sort of positive approach I will encourage for the young people of Hornsey and Wood Green.
Labour will also reduce university tuition fees to £6,000, reducing the burden of debt on the next generation, and increase student grants by £400, helping all young people succeed.
