Catherine West MP has launched her own Early Day Motion (EDM) to recognise the Centenary of the Qualification of Women Act 1918 – the law that gave women the right to stand for Parliament.

She said: “2018 marks 100 years since women were first given the right to become Members of Parliament.  It’s something to celebrate but since that time, only 290 women have been elected compared to 4,503 men.  There’s a lot more to be done to make our Parliament reflect our country and as MPs we all have a responsibility to encourage and support more women to stand for election.  I’m delighted to have strong cross-party support already for my EDM”
