Catherine West MP has slammed the Tory Government’s Social Housing green paper, which was finally published during the summer Parliamentary recess.

Catherine said: “We’ve waited and waited for this green paper and now it’s finally been published it’s not worth the paper it’s written on.  We have a desperate housing crisis and the number of social rented homes fell to a new low last year.  Despite this, the Green Paper doesn’t contain a single penny of new money to increase housing supply.

I’m one of a number of MPs who has written to the Secretary of State to express disappointment at its woeful lack of ambition and to call for three actions that would really tackle the scale of this housing crisis.  I want to see a target to deliver 100,000 social homes a year by 2022; at least £6.3 billion of funding a year to enable councils and housing associations to deliver this; and an immediate lift of the borrowing cap up to the limit of the Prudential Code for local authorities.”
