I have been contacted by a number of constituents who are extremely concerned about the North London Waste Authority’s (NLWA) proposals to build a new waste incinerator at their site in Edmonton.

London has the highest incineration rate in the UK for management of local authority waste, yet the lowest recycling rate.  I know that a number of residents are concerned about the North London Waste Authority’s plans for the new incinerator at Edmonton, and like them, I would like to see the balance shift away from incineration and towards reducing and recycling much more of London’s waste.

I have written to the Government Minister to ask what assessment has been made of the environmental impact, and what support is being provided to London local authorities to increase recycling rates.
