Area affected by burst water main

I’ve been in touch with Thames Water this morning following the burst water trunk main on Church Lane, Hornsey which I know is affecting many homes in the area.  I’m sorry if you’re one of them.

Below are the latest update I’ve had from Thames Water on the work they’re doing to restore supplies and together with Haringey Council’s emergency team to help those affected:

Update at 5.45pm

“Our repair on the pipe is progressing well and should be completed later this evening. Due to the action we have taken to re-route supplies, we believe most people impacted should now have their water back.

Please note, it can sometimes take a bit of time for pressure in the network to build back up after supplies have been interrupted, especially for those in taller buildings. The water may also be slightly cloudy. This is perfectly safe but running the tap for a few minutes should clear it.

As a precaution, the drive-through bottled water station at Alexandra Palace will remain open until 7.30pm just in case there are any more issues.

In terms of the impact on roads, High Street Road was closed for a period of time due to the volume of water in the road. This has now been cleared and the road has fully re-opened.

The repair and reinstatement of Church Lane, along with any residual repairs, will take several days, although the pipe will be in service before then. There will be a road closure in place to allow this work to be carried out safely but all residents will still have access to their homes.”

Update at 11.30am

“A plan to re-route the water network is currently being put in place which we hope will return supplies early this afternoon.  The repair to the damaged pipe will also take place this afternoon so a section of Church Lane is shut while this is taking place. Traffic management is in place to ensure this can be carried out as quickly and safely.

We are aware of four properties which have experienced internal flooding. Our customers reps and loss adjusters are on site to provide all the support the property owners need.

Bottled water is being delivered to all customers on our priority service register and we are in the process of setting up a bottled water station in case supplies do not return in the next few hours.

We are very sorry for the disruption this causing but are doing everything we can to minimise the impact and get things back to normal, including working with Haringey Council’s emergency planning team.”
