I have received lots of emails from constituents who are rightly concerned about the Government’s plans for a deportation flight to Zimbabwe later this week. I share all your concerns and have urgently raised this with the Minister for Future Borders and Immigration.
Many of those who are scheduled for the flight came to the UK as children and others came to the UK to flee persecution. We have a legal and moral obligation to protect these people who see the UK as their home. I am also worried that those facing deportation will not be safe once in Zimbabwe, a country whose threatening human rights record is well known to the Department.
Please read above my urgent letter to the Home Office.
