Catherine West Working hard for Hornsey & Friern Barnet

Applications are now open for my fifth Politics Summer School for 16–19-year olds living or studying in Hornsey & Friern Barnet. Taking place from 7th-10th July 2025, it’s a fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into the life of a Member of Parliament, as well as learning about the different aspects of politics in London.
The week will include:
- An introduction to Parliament and policy at the House of Commons
- A visit to City Hall, including a tour and an opportunity to find out more about the work of the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayors and Assembly Members
- A visit to Haringey Council to learn more about the role of local government and the constituency
- Talks and panel sessions with politicians and policy makers and a chance to visit Downing Street and much more!
- A certificate presentation ceremony in Hornsey and Friern Barnet.
If you are interested in taking part, you can apply online here.
The closing date for applications is Monday 19 May.
Applicants will be notified by mid-June if they have been successful.
Attendees must be available to attend all four days of the summer school. Catherine particularly welcomes applications from those who are currently under-represented in politics including disabled candidates and Black and Minority Ethnic candidates.
Places at the Politics Summer School are limited to 24, and we expect demand to be high so sadly not all applications will be successful. Catherine is keen to have attendees from schools across Hornsey & Friern Barnet, so there will be a cap of no more than three students per school.
Unsuccessful attendees will be invited to visit Parliament to attend a tour, have a Q&A session with Catherine West MP and watch Parliamentary proceedings from the public gallery.
