Many animal populations have disappeared from these isles because of overhunting and habitat loss. But in recent months, wildlife that has been missing for centuries is making a comeback.
With the help of the Mayor of London, storks are being reintroduced to London’s skylines after an absence of 600 years. The Mayor’s team has also facilitated the return of beavers to the capital after 400 years.
And now, it seems beavers and storks won’t be the only animals making a historic return to their homes. The Environment Secretary has approved an additional £1 million of funding to explore the reintroduction of Golden Eagles, which have been absent from our skies for over 150 years. By bringing back our lost wildlife, our biodiversity can recover. They will be released in the North of England, but who knows where their flight path may take them!
The delicate balance of our ecosystems can be better held together if the dams of beavers and nests of storks and eagles return to British landscapes once again.
