Catherine West Working hard for Hornsey & Friern Barnet
The Climate Change Committee’s latest annual report has revealed that, under the previous Conservative government, the country wasn’t on track to meet our emissions reduction targets. Indeed, it said there were currently credible plans to deliver a third of the emissions reductions required.
That didn’t come as a surprise, but it’s clear there is no time to waste if we are to meet out net zero goals and in our first weeks in power, Labour scrapped the Tory onshore wind ban, approved solar projects able to power the equivalent of almost 400,000 homes, established the 2030 mission control centre and set up a national wealth fund to create good clean energy jobs across the country.
We’ve also established a taskforce to drive forward onshore wind projects, and a new parliamentary Bill so we can set up Great British Energy, a UK-wide publicly owned energy generation company.
It’s all part of our mission for clean power by 2030, to lower bills and make Britain energy dependent and I look forward to supporting these and other measures the Government takes.
