One of Labour’s missions for government is to break down the barriers to opportunity for every child. 14 years of Conservative failure means that all too often children in Hornsey & Wood Green are held back by their circumstances, not by their talent. Labour is determined that every child has access to an excellent education to open up opportunities and help them thrive.
In Parliament, I have called for action on our crumbling school buildings, support for children with special educational needs and the recruitment of thousands of teachers paid for by ending the tax breaks on private schools.
I’ve also called for children to enjoy a broad curriculum, including music and drama, nurturing creativity alongside academic success.
Our new Labour Government will deliver 6,500 more specialist teachers, vital early years support, mental health provision in every school and free breakfast clubs – funded by ending the tax breaks for private schools.
