I’ve received lots of emails about tonight’s Brexit votes so I wanted to let you know that I’ve added my name to five amendments.
That includes Yvette Cooper’s amendment, which would give Parliament a vote on seeking an extension to Article 50 if the PM can’t get her deal through. It’s an important way of ensuring we don’t end up with No Deal by accident because the clock runs down.
With the Prime Minister’s deal falling to a historic defeat, we know what Parliament doesn’t want. But we still don’t know if any options have majority backing, so I’m supporting Hilary Benn’s amendment calling for “indicative votes” on a range of options including a Norway-style deal or a second referendum.
As a long standing supporter of the campaign for a further public vote, I’m very pleased that Jeremy Corbyn’s official amendment notes that this is now one of the only two remaining options. I agree and it has my full backing. I want to see the Government extend Article 50 and propose legislation to prepare for a public vote.
