I welcomed the chance to hear from local residents on Page High and the Sandlings the issues of importance to them. Thanks to Cllr Peray Ahmet, Cllr Emine Ibrahim, council and Sanctuary staff for joining our estate walkabout and to everyone who took the time to chat to us.

The UK currently faces a housing crisis. Since 2010 we’ve seen a steep drop in investment for new affordable homes; billions of pounds cut from housing benefit; inaction on short-term lets; soaring rents in the private rented sector; and significant cuts to funding for homelessness services.

Housing is consistently the number one issue residents contact me about in my regular advice surgeries, with many thousands of families in Hornsey & Wood Green struggling in desperately overcrowded homes.

It’s not good enough and in Parliament I continue to push for the Government to invest in building more of the homes our community so urgently needs.  I also call for 50% of all new housing developments to be genuinely affordable.
