I remain extremely disappointed that the result of the 2019 General Election means we have left the European Union. I campaigned to remain and opposed a devastating Tory Brexit at every turn. I voted against triggering Article 50, was one of the first MPs to call for a final say referendum, twice voted to revoke Article 50 rather than risk a devastating no deal Brexit and blocked May & Johnson’s botched Tory deals on every occasion.
As President of London 4 Europe I was at the forefront of the campaign to remain. I stood alongside the 42,000 EU citizens, our friends and neighbours who have made Haringey their home and campaigned to have their rights guaranteed.
Although we are now outside the European Union I still believe we must fight for a relationship with our nearest neighbours which is as close as possible. It is beyond reckless that as our economy pays the price of the Covid-19 pandemic, the possibility of a no-deal Brexit remains thanks to the incompetent negotiations of Johnson’s Conservative Government.
