I have and will continue to do everything in my power to prevent reckless PM Johnson destroying jobs, devastating farming and manufacturing, putting at risk vital supplies and throwing into complete chaos the lives of the three million EU citizens who call the UK home with “no deal”.

I’ve written to the PM to urge that Parliament is recalled as soon as possible and am pleased to be listed as a petitioner in this legal bid to prevent Johnson shutting down Parliament to push his plans through.

The damage caused by such an act of self-sabotage will be felt for generations and I will work with any MP from any party to stop it, bring about a public vote and campaign to remain.

I also intend to table my own amendment to the Brexit Bill when it comes forward instructing the Government to withdraw Article 50 should we face the reality of a no-deal Brexit come October.

I’ve always believed we are stronger and better within the EU.  I voted to remain and have spent the last three years in Parliament fighting for the Tories’ damaging Brexit to be stopped.  I voted against triggering Article 50, voted to retain our Single Market and Customs Union membership, backed proposals to revoke Article 50 if no deal is reached before exit day and was one of the first MPs to come out in support of a public vote on the final deal.  I’ve led calls to investigate the scandal that saw thousands of EU citizens denied their vote in the European Elections.

I’ll continue to do everything I can to stand up for our community against this reckless Tory created mess.
