The government must back bereaved families and plan a public inquiry for when we reach the end of the roadmap.

The TUC has highlighted that 15,000 people of working age have died during the pandemic and I support their calls for the public inquiry to examine the measures in place to protect the safety of workers.

It’s not good enough for the Government to say they’re “too busy”.  We cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes again and whilst everyone understands the challenges the first wave of Covid brought, the Government refusal to learn left us with an even more tragic winter with too many lives lost.

Justice delayed is justice denied.  Both the Chilcot and Hillsborough Inquiries show why we shouldn’t and mustn’t wait for the next Parliament to start this work.  Labour will keep pushing the Government to act.
