Catherine West MP MP for Hornsey & Wood Green and Labour Candidate for Hornsey & Friern Barnet
Last year, Royal Mail paid out over £500 million to shareholders.
This year, they’ve announced huge half-year losses and plans to cut 10,000 jobs.
Today I asked the PM why they’re not investigating the mismanagement of this iconic British service, protecting the future of the Universal Service Offer and standing up for our loyal postal workers.
Watch here:
My question follows my letter last week to the Business Secretary, urging the Government to launch an inquiry into mismanagement of Royal Mail and to defend the Universal Service Offer.
I have long raised concerns with the Government, with Ofcom and with Royal Mail bosses about the situation there following two winters of severe postal delays in Hornsey & Wood Green.
Last month I wrote to Royal Mail to raise my concerns about reports that tracked mail was being prioritised to the detriment of regular mail. You can view the response I received here.
