Catherine campaigning against the closure of Wood Green Crown Post Office in 2018

Since our busy Wood Green Post Office closed back in March, I’ve been pushing for a new branch to open as soon as possible.

I raised the issue in Parliament, wrote to the Chief Executive of the Post Office urging him to confirm an opening date, and have been in regular contact with Haringey Council and the Post Office.  Find out more about the actions I’ve been taking here.

It was always such a busy branch, and I know how difficult it has been, particularly for older and disabled residents to have to travel to Hornsey or Turnpike Lane to access these basic services.  This week, I received another update from the Post Office on progress.  They have told me that applications to run the new branch are now at their final stage with interviews taking place next week.  Once a successful applicant is appointed, they will need to sign the contract and confirm the details for the new premises.

The Post Office have told me that this final stage usually takes around 10-12 weeks and during this time they will confirm a branch opening date and the new location to constituents.  They are hopeful that the opening will be in early Autumn, and I will continue to emphasise the importance of moving at speed to bring these vital services back.

Once I have any more information, I will post it here.
