I was alerted yesterday to the news that at least seven people, currently living in my constituency, have been issued with letters from the Home Office alerting them to a move to Napier Barracks.  This is alarming news and has understandably caused huge distress.

I immediately wrote to the Immigration Minister and you can read my full statement below:

“This is a shameful way to treat vulnerable people just days before Christmas.  People have come here seeking sanctuary and are being supported by local health services, charities, faith groups and the Council.  To strip them away from this support without any warning or assessment of their needs is cruel and has caused huge anxiety for people who have already suffered unimaginable traumas.  I’ve written urgently to the Immigration Minister to ask that any moves are put on hold and full needs assessments carried out”
